LEXINGTON, Ky. – The University of Kentucky women’s tennis team completed play for their first three-day tournaments of the fall season today. Six team members participated in the Kansas Invitational at the Jayhawk Tennis Center in Lawrence, Kan., while three other team members traveled to Dublin, Ohio for the Muirfield Collegiate Tennis Invitational at The Country Club at Muirfield Village.
The highlight of the Kansas Tournament came from sophomores Khristina Blajkevitch and Cece Witten as they took fifth place for the tournament in doubles.
After an impressive singles performance yesterday, sophomore CeCe Witten moved on to play Tamara Slijepcevic of Arkansas State University this morning. The two battled but ultimately, Slijepcevic came out with the 9-7 win in a 10-point super tiebreaker.
Sophomore Misha Testermen was the only other Wildcat to move on to the third day of singles play but suffered a similar fate to Witten. She was defeated, 8-6, by Dylan Windom of Kansas University.
At the Muifield Tournament, junior Jessica Stiles and sophomore Caitlin McGraw found success in the first round of the doubles draw but fell to Zara Haruntyunyan and Prang Pantusart of the University of Akron, 8-5, in the second round.
In singles play, all three Wildcats won their first round matches, but only freshman Edmee Morin moved on to win in the second round. She beat Kara Cecil of the Ohio State University in straight sets but then lost to Becca Shine of the University of Louisville, 7-6,6-2. She moved into the quarter’s consolation round and defeated Ashleigh Witte of the University of Cincinnati, 6-4, 6-4.
