IRVING, Texas — After pacing the high-octane No. 21 Kentucky men’s soccer offense to the 2011 Gamecock Classic, sophomore forward Tyler Riggs has been selected Conference USA Offensive Player of the Week for the second time in 2011, it was announced by the league office on Monday afternoon.
Riggs has been named a member of the College Soccer News National Team of the Week, in addition to his second C-USA Offensive Player of the Week honor of 2011. A native of Louisville, Ky., Riggs led UK with three goals during the two-game weekend in Columbia, S.C., including a two-goal game in UK’s thrashing of No. 15 Brown in the Gamecock Classic Championship game.
On the year, Riggs has been a force offensively with eight goals and four assists, ranking as the C-USA leader with 20 points. Riggs has been extremely efficient in his shots, firing 19 shots on target in his 25 total efforts in 2011. Riggs ranks among the league leader in nearly every offensive category, including fourth in shots, ninth in shots per game (2.78), second in goals, second in goals per game (0.89), fifth in assists and fourth in game-winning goals (two).
Riggs was also named a member of the College Soccer News National Team of the Week on Monday after his performance. On the year, Riggs owns two Conference USA Offensive Player of the Week honors, a National Soccer Coaches Association of America National Player of the Week accolade and a Soccer America National Player of the Week honor.
