LEXINGTON, Ky. — After recording three goals to lead No. 21 Kentucky to the 2011 Gamecock Classic Championship over the weekend, sophomore Tyler Riggs has been selected to the College Soccer News National Team of the Week, it was announced on Monday morning.

Riggs, a native of Louisville, Ky., netted three goals on the weekend, including two in UK’s dominating 5-1 win over No. 15 Brown in the championship game. His first goal of the weekend came in the 2-1 win over High Point, giving the Wildcats a 1-0 lead. In the Sunday win, Riggs fired six total shots, with all six coming on target. In addition, Riggs had his would-be hat-trick goal called off due to an offside call on Sunday.

His offensive output came against two solid teams, as High Point is coming off a 16-win season and an unbeaten conference slate a year ago, with Brown fresh off an Elite Eight finish in the NCAA Tournament and entered the clash ranked as high as No. 15.

On the year, Riggs ranks among the NCAA leaders in points and goals, owning eight goals and four assists through nine games. The St. Xavier product is on pace to threaten Riley O’Neill’s school record of 17 goals in 2006. Riggs has fired 25 shots on the year, with an impressive 19 coming on goal and two of his goals coming as game-winning tallies.

Riggs, who led UK in goals as a freshman, now owns 13 career goals and four assists, netting four game-winning goals in just 19 career starting assignments.

In his first two games of the year, Riggs dazzled offensively for the Wildcats, earning National Soccer Coaches Associational Player of the Week honors, in addition to Conference USA Offensive Player of the Week and Soccer America Player of the Week accolades.

In addition, UK moved up from No. 29 to No. 21 in the latest College Soccer News top-30 rankings. UK has been ranked as high as No. 15 in 2011 by the NSCAA coaches top-25 poll.
