LEXINGTON, Ky. — A Kentucky baseball fall scrimmage was highlighted by a two-run home run from junior catcher Luke Maile and a two-hit outing from senior third baseman Thomas McCarthy, held Friday afternoon at Cliff Hagan Stadium.

During a four-inning scrimmage on gorgeous conditions on Friday afternoon at Cliff Hagan Stadium, Maile’s big two-run homer was the highlight of the fall practice, with McCarthy also collecting two line-drive singles in two at bats.

As a sophomore in 2011, Maile belted a team-high nine homers for the Wildcats, with UK finishing second in the league in total homers. Maile hit .282 with 10 doubles, three triples and 36 RBI in 51 of UK’s 55 games in 2011. The first-team All-Southeastern Conference third sacker in 2011, McCarthy finished second in the league with a .411 average in league play, batting .371 overall with 19 doubles, two triples, seven homers and 39 RBI.

Sophomore infielder Matt Reida also had a good game at the plate, drawing a walk and collecting a single and RBI with a stolen base. Catcher Micheal Thomas hit an opposite-field solo homer to open the scoring for both teams, sailing into the observation deck in right-centerfield.

UK sophomore right-hander Tyler Dunaway and junior right-hander Tim Peterson started on the mound each team, tossing three innings each.

Hometown Lexington, Ky., native outfielders Lucas Witt and Cameron Flynn each added hits in two at bats during the game.

Freshman infielder Max Kuhn charted a double, with freshman outfielder Austin Cousino ripping two hits, including a double off the wall in rightfield. Kuhn and Cousino make up part of a UK newcomer class that was tabbed No. 25 in the Collegiate Baseball top-25 recruiting class rankings.
