COLUMBIA, S.C. — Kentucky men’s soccer leading scorer Tyler Riggs has been voted to the first-team Academic All-District by the College Sports Information Directors Association of America, it was announced on Friday afternoon.

A native of Louisville, Ky., Riggs was voted to the first team by college sports information directors thanks to a 3.91 GPA as a mechanical engineering major, with the UK standout owning only one “B” grade during his collegiate career. With the first-team Academic All-District accolade, Riggs is now eligible for CoSIDA Academic All-America honors. UK’s last Academic All-District honoree was Chad Hagerty in 2008-09, with Hagerty voted Academic All-America in 2007-08.

Riggs leads UK in scoring with 25 points, ranking fifth in UK single-season history. Riggs owns 10 goals and five assists, with his 10 goals ranking fifth in UK single-season history. In his two-year career, Riggs has 15 goals and five assists, including four game-winning goals in just 34 games and 25 starts. His goal-scoring output in 2011 has come in 17 games, with Riggs missing two games due to injury.

In the latest NCAA stats, Riggs ranks No. 28 in the nation in goals scored and No. 23 in total points. In the Conference USA stats, Riggs ranks fourth in points, fourth in points per game (1.47), fourth in goals and fifth in goals per game (0.59).

Riggs opened the season with a goal in the lidlifter against Dayton and his first career two-goal outing against Michigan, earning C-USA Offensive Player of the Week accolades. Riggs also tied a school-record with three assists in a win over IPFW earlier in the year, also netting two goals in a 5-1 smashing of No.15 Brown.
