LEXINGTON, Ky. — Kentucky soccer sophomore Tyler Riggs has been selected third-team Academic All-America by the College Sports Information Directors Association of America, it was announced.

A native of Louisville, Ky., Riggs led UK in scoring during the 2011 season, posting 11 goals and five assists to earn All-Conference USA accolades for the second consecutive year. In the classroom, Riggs owns a 3.91 GPA as a mechanical engineering major.

Riggs is the fifth Kentucky soccer player in program history to earn CoSIDA Academic All-America honors, joining Sean Endicot (1995-96), Ilkka Jantti (2001-02), Chris McAlpine (2001-01) and Chad Hagerty (2007-08).

As a sophomore in 2011, Riggs posted a team-high 27 points, starting 14 of UK’s 20 games and firing 41 shots with 29 coming on target. Riggs etched his name throughout the UK record books, finishing among the UK single-season record holders in points (fourth), goals (third) and assists (17th). In his two-year career, Riggs ranks 12th in UK history in points (37), ninth in goals (16) and 12th in game-winning goals (four).

During the 2011 season, Riggs had several highlight moments, including tying a school-record with three assists in a game vs. IPFW and earning National Soccer Coaches Association of America National Player of the Week honors after netting three goals in the first two games of the season, including a two-goal outburst in a win over No. 9 Michigan.
