Lexington, Ky. – The University of Kentucky women’s tennis team dominated in their first double header at home. The Wildcats hosted Belmont and Morehead State at the Hilary J. Boone Varsity Tennis Center and defeated both teams, 7-0.
The Cats started off the day against Belmont at 11 a.m. ET. With an injured Khristina Blajkevitch, the No. 1 doubles position was occupied by sophomore Caitlin McGraw and freshman Edmée Morin-Kougoucheff. The two didn’t miss a beat, as they faced Laura Stack and Carolyn Caire and won the match, 8-4.
After taking all of the doubles matches, UK moved on to singles where the closest game had a score of 6-3, 6-1, as every match ended in straight sets. Freshman Stephanie Fox continued her impressive streak with a, 6-0, 6-0, finish over Abbey Hogan. Cece Witten also recorded a notable, 6-0, 6-0, victory against Catherine Holliday.
UK kept rolling as they moved on to their match against Morehead State at 6 p.m. ET. McGraw and Morin-Kougoucheff put on an exciting performance, as they faced Victoria Cran and Jessica Montemayer. The duo dominated the match for its entirety to ultimately win, 8-0.
In singles, the Wildcats had two more, 6-0, 6-0 results, this time from Morin-Kougoucheff and sophomore Misha Testerman. Witten also played another steady match, as she grabbed a, 6-0, 6-1, win from Brooke Helm.
Sophomore Caitlin McGraw had the closest match of the day as she took on Alexis Garrett. The two battled for every point for over two hours, needing a third set to decide the result. Ultimately, McGraw had what it took to get the victory as she won the match, 6-0, 5-7, 6-2.
Wrapping up play for the weekend, the Cats start the season with a 3-0 record. They will face Purdue next on Feb. 4 at noon ET.
