BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – Senior Stephen Stallings was named to the All-Southeastern Conference Community Service team recognizing his extraordinary efforts in the community. The honor is the first of Stallings’ career.
The annual SEC Golf Community Service Team recognizes the superior community service efforts of the league’s student-athletes. The SEC Community Service Team consists of one student-athlete from each SEC institution, nominated by his school’s personnel, who has devoted himself to community service.
The SEC also sponsors community service teams for football, men’s and women’s basketball and the league’s men’s and women’s Olympic sports.
Stallings has spent numerous hours in the community throughout his career at UK. He made dinner for residents at the Ronald McDonald House and cleaned the facility. He’s packed food and delivered it to local elementary schools in conjunction with God’s Pantry. The Louisville, Kentucky native, has participated in the UK Blanket Project that saw student-athletes make blankets and deliver them to local children’s hospitals around the holiday season. He has volunteered at the First Tee Program. He was a participant for the National Student-Athlete Day Craft Center Event, and he volunteers on the road with the team at events like the Schenkel Invitational Junior Golf Clinic.
On the course, Stallings has started every event in each of the last two seasons for the Cats. The senior captain played in all 10 events during the 2016-17 regular season and boasts a 73.4 stroke average. He has four top-20 finishes as well as a season-best finish of seventh at the Bearcat Invitational. Stallings fired a season-low round of 68 during the third round of play at the SEC Championship.
Stallings and the Wildcats will learn their NCAA Tournament fate on Thursday. A 30-minute selection show will air on the Golf Channel at Noon ET.
