LEXINGTON, Ky. — After improving to 24-1 on the year with a series win at Tennessee over the weekend, Kentucky has climbed to No. 10 in the latest Baseball America top-25, it was announced on Monday morning.
Kentucky (24-1, 5-1 Southeastern Conference) has ascended to the second highest ranking in a Baseball America poll in program history, with a No. 8 ranking on May 8, 2006 checking in as the best mark in school history. UK claimed the first SEC Championship in program history in 2006, winning a school-record 44 games.
The Wildcats completed a series win over the weekend at Tennessee, also notching a win over Cincinnati in the Queen City during the midweek. Kentucky’s 24-1 overall record leads the nation, while its 5-1 record in league action is the best since starting 7-0 to open conference play in 1992, with UK tied atop of the conference standings after two weeks with No. 1 ranked Florida. UK’s 24-1 start is its best in school history, with a 22-game winning streak to open the campaign tops in program annals and second-best in the storied history of the SEC.
Kentucky returns to action on Tuesday, hosting Western Kentucky at 6:30 p.m. ET at Cliff Hagan Stadium. The game will be broadcast live on the UK IMG Radio Network, with Dick Gabriel calling the action.
