Sutjiadi and Galyer Selected to CoSIDA Academic All-District At-Large Team

LEXINGTON, Ky. – Senior swimmer Danielle Galyer and senior tennis player Aldila Sutjiadi have been named to the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) Academic All-District 2 At-Large team, the organization announced Thursday.
All-District honorees advance to the CoSIDA Academic All-America Team ballot, where first-, second- and third-team All-America honorees will be selected later this month. Sports on the women’s at-large ballot include bowling, crew, fencing, field hockey, golf, gymnastics, ice hockey, lacrosse, rifle, skiing, tennis and water polo.
Each of Kentucky’s honorees have maintained excellent academic standards throughout their four-year careers as Wildcats and both received their undergraduate degrees this past weekend. Sutjiadi and Galyer have each been the recipient of the prestigious NCAA Elite 90 award the past two seasons.
The distinction is the second career award for Gayler, a 2016 CoSIDA Academic All-America First Team honoree. Double majoring in psychology and political science, Galyer maintained a flawless 4.0 grade-point average in her time as a student-athlete. The Greenville, S.C., native also is a two-time Southeastern Conference Scholar-Athlete of the Year.
A member of the USA National Team, Galyer became the first swimmer in Kentucky history to earn a national title when she won the 200 back in a school-record time of 1:49.71 last season, the sixth-fastest swim in American swimming history. A four-time First Team All-American, Galyer led the Kentucky women’s team to its best Southeastern Conference Championships finish in program history as well as its highest point total at the NCAA Championships in her senior season.
The honor is also the second for Sutjiadi, who was named to the 2016 CoSIDA Academic All-America Third Team. The senior wrapped up her academic career with a 3.920 GPA in mathematical economics. The Jakarta, Indonesia, native was named this season’s SEC Scholar-Athlete of the Year and was the third-runner up for the 2017 Arthur Ashe Jr. Sports Scholar of the Year award.
Sutjiadi is currently competing in her fourth and final NCAA Championship. Last season, she became one of Kentucky’s first All-Americans since 2007 as she teamed up with Mami Adachi in the NCAA Doubles Championship and advanced to the Elite Eight. The same pair went on to win Kentucky’s first ever ITA National Indoors title in November. The senior will once again represent Kentucky in the NCAA Singles and Doubles Championships later this month. Playing at both No. 1 doubles and singles this season, Sutjiadi helped lead her team to its first seven-win SEC season since 2006 with 10 wins over ranked opponents.
To be nominated, a student-athlete must be a starter or important reserve with at least a 3.30 cumulative grade point average (on a 4.0 scale) at his/her current institution. Nominated athletes must have participated in at least 50 percent of the team’s competition.
