LEXINGTON, Ky. – The University of Kentucky women’s golf team, led by senior Ashlee Rose, finished the first round of the 2012 SEC Championship in 10th. The Wildcats shot a 29-over-par 317 on their first day of competition at Blessings Golf Club in Fayetteville, Ark.  

Alabama currently sits atop the leaderboard after shooting a 9-over-par 297 on day one. The Crimson Tide have a nine-stroke lead as Auburn sits in second at 18-over-par 306. Florida finished the first round at 19-over-par 307, sitting in third. Georgia is in fourth at 20-over-par 308 while Arkansas and Mississippi round out the top five in a tie for fifth at 21-over-par 309.

Rose led Kentucky with a 3-over-par 75 in the first round. Kentucky’s lone senior sunk two birdies on Friday morning, leaving her in a tie for ninth. Consistency was key for Rose, on top of her two birdies, Rose shot 12 pars in her first 18 holes of the weekend.

Marta Silva Zamora of Georgia and Patricia Sanz of Auburn currently hold a tie for the lead after shooting 3-under-par 69s in the first round. Sanz paced the field with four birdies and 13 pars while Zamora shot an eagle to go along with three birdies.

Sophomore Liz Breed finished her first day in a tie for 33rd after shooting an 8-over-par 80. Kentucky’s scoring average leader, junior Ashleigh Albrecht, posted a 9-over-par 81 on her first day of action at the SEC Championship. Albrecht’s 81 on Friday leaves her in a tie for 41st. Both Breed and Albrecht finished their first round of 18 with one birdie to go along with 10 pars.

With two birdies on the day, junior Betsie Johnson finished in a tie for 41st at 9-over-par 81. Junior Heather Lott shot a 12-over-par 84, entering the second round in a tie for 54th.

Kentucky will begin the second round of the 2012 SEC Championship Saturday morning from the 12th tee box. The Wildcats will tee off in 10-minute intervals with Lott leading off at 9:30 a.m. Lott will be followed by Johnson, Albrecht, Breed and finally Rose at 10:10 a.m. All times are Eastern.
