LEXINGTON, Ky. – University of Kentucky football fans have the chance to bring ESPN College GameDay back to Lexington, Ky., as the nationwide show has decided to film a commercial for the program on a university campus selected by fans. College football fans across the country can participate in a social media promotion to have a College GameDay spot on their campus this summer.
The contest runs until May 10 (11:59 p.m. ET). Fans can vote once per day for their university at GameDayVote.com via computers or smartphones or using the Facebook app at facebook.com/collegegameday. Fans can keep track of the leading schools throughout the promotion and share the contest with friends on various social platforms to drive votes for their university.
This first-of-its-kind spot will be filmed this summer on the selected campus with real students and begin airing in the fall to promote the 2012 season of College GameDay Built by The Home Depot. The contest highlights College GameDay’s unique on-campus presence while building on the successful social vote last season, which asked fans to choose a mascot for the ESPN College GameDay Dry Cleaners spot.
Now in its 26th year, College GameDay airs Saturdays at 9 a.m. ET on ESPNU and at 10 a.m. ET on ESPN.
College GameDay made its first appearance in Lexington back in 2007 when Kentucky hosted Southeastern Conference foe Florida at Commonwealth Stadium. The week before, Kentucky had earned one of the biggest wins in school history, taking down No. 1 LSU in Lexington. Thousands of fans turned out for the show and cast members have indicated that it was one of the best GameDay events ever.
