LEXINGTON, Ky. – The Kentucky volleyball team kicked off the 2012 season with an inter-squad scrimmage in front of a terrific crowd Sunday afternoon at Memorial Coliseum. UK exchanged players throughout the four-set successful session as the Wildcats competed for approximately an hour in front of the UK faithful.
The Wildcats had numerous players reached double-figures in the kills’ column led by 13 from the hand of senior Ashley Frazier. Freshman Shelby Workman posted 10 combined for the match with sophomore Lauren O’Conner matching that total with 10 as well.
Junior Alexandra Morgan chipped in with nine hammers with senior setter Christine Hartmann dishing out 37 total assists. Freshman Morgan Bergren tallied 34 assists with every attacking Wildcat notching at least two kills on the afternoon.
Workman added 13 digs to her successful offensive effort, with sophomore Jackie Napper also posting 13. Junior Jessi Greenberg chipped in with 11 and senior libero Stephanie Klefot added 10.
Freshman Kayla Tronick led the way defensively at the net with seven blocks and Morgan added six for the afternoon.
The Wildcats will open the 2012 campaign at home Friday, Aug. 24 at 7 p.m. ET. UK hosts North Carolina in the annual Kentucky Classic with Lipscomb and Long Beach State meeting in the 5 p.m. ET match to round out the field.
