LEXINGTON, Ky. — After saving six shots in a shutout win at No. 18 Louisville on Friday, Kentucky junior goalkeeper Jack Van Arsdale was named to the national team of the week by the College Soccer News, it was announced on Monday morning.

Van Arsdale was honored for the heroic clean sheet on Friday night and was the lone keeper on the College Soccer News National Team of the Week, giving him the NCAA’s top net-minding performance of the week.

A native of Richmond, Va., Van Arsdale is the first UK player honored with a weekly award in 2012 and the accolade is the first weekly honor in his career. A redshirt junior and a transfer from Virginia Commonwealth, Van Arsdale’s outing came in a rivalry tilt in front of 5,583 fans at Louisville’s Cardinal Park, the most fans to ever witness a UK men’s soccer game.

The six saves tied a career-high for Van Arsdale, with the 6-foot-1, 195-pounder tallying saves in the ninth, 22nd, 36th, 47th, 72nd and 83rd minutes vs. UL. On the year, Van Arsdale has started three games with four appearances, owing a 1.12 goals-against average with 15 saves in 320 minute. In his two-year career, Van Arsdale has a 1.47 goals-against average in seven games.

“Jack you could see in him today that he made up his mind he was going to keep a clean sheet,” UK head coach Johan Cedergren said of Van Arsdale’s outing following the wild win Friday. “To come in here at Louisville to keep a clean sheet is a fantastic feeling.”

“Jack kept us in the game,” UK senior co-captain Matt Lodge said postgame. “He must have made about 10 saves in the second half.”

Kentucky (2-4-0) returns to action on Wednesday, hosting East Tennessee State at 7 p.m. ET at the UK Soccer Complex.
