Sept. 23, 2012
LEXINGTON, Ky. – The University of Kentucky men’s golf team gears up for their second tournament of the 2012 fall season as they will tee off at the Saint Mary’s College Invitational Sept. 24-25 in Monterey, Calif.
“This is a great opportunity for our guys to play west golf on two very challenging courses in the Blackhorse and Bayonet courses,” head coach Brian Craig said. “We always try to schedule regular season events that will test our skills in a variety of conditions and, ultimately, get us ready for the post-season. Our trip to California should certainly do that with the different grasses and playing conditions on the Monterey Peninsula.”
Coach Craig will send out the same lineup the Wildcats used in the Wolf Run Invitational last weekend where the Cats placed fifth. The lineup includes Will Bishop, Stephen Powers, Cody Martin, Chase Parker and David Snyder. Joseph Barr will represent UK, playing as an individual.
The tournament features a 54-hole format with the low four scores from each team’s designated five-player lineup counting toward the team total each round. The teams will play 36 holes on Monday, followed by a final round of 18 holes on Tuesday. Each day of competition will begin with an 11 a.m. (ET) shotgun start.
In addition to the Wildcats, the field includes Cal Poly, CSU Northridge, Florida Gulf Coast, Fresno State, Kansas State, Kentucky, Loyola Marymount, Oregon, Sacramento State, Samford, Saint Mary’s, San Francisco, Santa Clara, UC Irvine and Western Carolina.
The teams will play on two different courses this week, featuring the Bayonet and Blackhorse Golf Courses. Both courses are par-72 with the Bayonet being a 7,104 yard layout, while the Blackhorse is 7,024 yards.
