LEXINGTON, Ky. – University of Kentucky football head coach Joker Phillips has announced that junior tailback Raymond Sanders and senior defensive back Martavius Neloms have been named game captains for Kentucky’s Southeastern Conference matchup on Saturday against No. 19/20 Mississippi State at 12:21 p.m. ET.
Game captains are usually chosen on the basis of performance in the previous game. Sanders led Kentucky in rushing last week against South Carolina, earning 59 yards on 14 carrie,s including a touchdown. Sanders also had one reception for 24 yards. For the season, Sanders paces UK in rushing with 260 yards on 40 carries and two touchdowns.
Neloms is having another solid season for Kentucky, playing both cornerback and safety. The native of Memphis, Tenn., posted nine tackles last week against South Carolina. Overall, Neloms ranks third on the team in tackles with 35, including a tackle-for-loss, interception and two fumbles forced.
Sanders and Neloms will join permanent game captains Matt Smith and Collins Ukwu.
