Kentucky incoming freshman Eva Mitchell has been named the 2017 Gatorade High School Girls’ Soccer Player of the Year in the state of Kentucky, it was announced on Monday morning by the organization.

Mitchell becomes the second West Jessamine player to win the award – joining 2014 UK alumna Arin Gilliland – who went on to be an All-SEC performer at Kentucky, and got a 2016 call up to the United States Women’s National Team.

“I am honored and excited to receive the Gatorade Player of the Year award,” Mitchell said. “I would like to thank my coaches, teammates and family for making me the player that I am today. I am so thankful to be a part of the Big Blue Nation and I can’t wait to see what’s in store for the fall season!”

Mitchell, a native of Nicholasville, Kentucky and alum of West Jessamine High School, will be entering her freshman year at UK in the fall of 2017 after spending the spring of 2016 with the team in training sessions after graduating high school early.

She had a 3.44 GPA in high school, and scored 41 goals this season for West Jessamine – with 14 assists added in as well. Mitchell had a stand-out spring for the Colts, being named 2016 Miss Soccer in the state of Kentucky, an NSCAA All-American, Midwest All-Region, First Team All-State and 12th Region First Team.
