Scott Woodward enters his third season as the wide receivers coach for the University of Kentucky football program in 2023.

The Wildcat has been a part of two of the most exciting wide receiver rooms in program history in 2021 and 2022.

Last season, he coached a triple threat in Freshmen All-Americans Barion Brown and Dane Key and veteran Tayvion Robinson. Brown concluded the season as the freshman record holder for most receiving yards in a season with 628 and most pass receptions in a season with 50. Meanwhile, Key set the freshman record with six touchdown receptions. Woodward’s strong reputation and ability to connect with his wideouts has aided in all three receivers deciding to return to the program in 2023.

In his first season in 2021, he coached Nebraska transfer and Kentucky native Wan’Dale Robinson to a banner season for the wide receiver and a 10-3 record for UK. The junior combined for 1,334 receiving yards on 104 catches during the season, setting school records in both categories. He finished the season ranked top 15 in the nation in numerous categories, including fourth in receptions per game (8.0), 11th in receiving yards and 12th in receiving yards per game (102.6). Robinson was also named to the All-SEC First Team, All-America Second Team (PFF), USA Today Bowl Team, while also being named the Lexington-Herald Leader Sports Figure of the Year and Vrbo Citrus Bowl MVP, among receiving other honors. Robinson was selected by the New York Giants in the second round of the 2022 NFL Draft.

Woodward came to Lexington after two seasons as offensive quality control assistant at Pitt (2019-20). Before joining the Panthers, he spent four years at Massachusetts (2015-18).

During his time in Amherst, he was an invaluable and versatile member of the Minutemen’s offensive staff. Serving as the tight ends coach in 2018, he also was as an offensive analyst and worked with the quarterbacks and receivers during his tenure there.

Prior to UMass, Woodward had stints at Fairleigh Dickinson-Florham (2013-15) and Westfield State (2010-13). He served in a variety of roles at FDU, including offensive coordinator, academic coordinator, travel coordinator and assistant strength and conditioning coordinator. Woodward’s positional focus was on the quarterbacks and he handled in-game play calling for the Devils.

At Westfield State, Woodward was an offensive graduate assistant working with the quarterbacks and skill positions. He additionally was a fundraising coordinator and managed home game event operations.

A former collegiate quarterback himself, Woodward was a four-year letterman at Massachusetts and played for the Minutemen’s 2006 team that finished as the NCAA I-AA national runner-up. A native of Wendell, Massachusetts, he graduated from UMass in 2009 with a bachelor’s degree in psychology.

He and his wife, Kelli, were married in July 2019. The couple has one son, James.
