Chris Morris was hired as Kentucky’s Director of Performance Science in 2016 and plays a critical role in optimizing the health and performance of the Wildcats’ football program. In his role, he develops and implements best-practice strategies designed to reduce injury risk while enhancing readiness, performance and recovery.
Morris also supports multiple Olympic sports at Kentucky, including men’s and women’s basketball and men’s and women’s soccer. He facilitates the use of advanced performance technologies and training resources, including Catapult GPS, Omegawave and 1080 Motion, and manages a team of sports science staff and interns to execute the department’s performance initiatives.
A native of Lawrenceburg, Kentucky, Morris returned to the Bluegrass after serving one season as the Director of Applied Sports Science at the University of Texas. Prior to that, he spent two years (2013–15) in Kentucky football’s high performance department as a sports scientist.
In addition to his work in collegiate athletics, Morris is the owner of Performance Training Academy in Lexington, a role he has held since 2008, where he consults on the implementation and analysis of heart rate variability and brain direct current potential data. He is also the author of Omegawave: Theory & Practice, a manual designed to assist strength and conditioning professionals in analyzing and interpreting Omegawave data.
Morris began his professional career as an academic graduate assistant at Kentucky from 2010–11, helping develop supplemental workshops for students in exercise physiology, nutrition and advanced physiology courses.
A former Kentucky football student-athlete, Morris was a punter for the Wildcats from 2002–05. He earned three degrees from the University of Kentucky: a bachelor’s degree in marketing in 2006, a master’s degree in exercise science in 2012 and a doctorate in exercise science in 2015.
He is a certified strength and conditioning specialist and CPR/AED certified.
Morris is married to the former Alexandra Mullins of Cary, North Carolina. He has two children, Madilyn and Aiden.
