Nate Dodson comes to the Bluegrass after serving the last two seasons (2024-25) as the assistant tight ends coach at LSU. He was instrumental in the development of Trey’Dez Green, who totaled 46 receptions for 534 yards and 11 scores during that time.
Prior to LSU, Dodson spent two seasons on the coaching staff at Colorado. He was named the interim quarterbacks coach midway through the 2022 season before being elevated to assistant quarterbacks coach in 2023.
In 2023, Dodson tutored starting quarterback Shedeur Sanders who completed 298 of 430 passes (69.3 percent) for 3,230 yards and 31 total touchdowns (27 passing and four rushing). He was later selected by the Cleveland Browns in the fifth round of the 2025 NFL Draft.
From 2019-21, Dodson was an offensive graduate assistant for the Minnesota Gophers, working with the quarterbacks and wide receivers. He was responsible for opponent film breakdown, film project development and all advanced opponent personnel scouting in addition to numerous responsibilities during games. During that time, he worked with quarterback Tanner Morgan and wide receivers Rashod Bateman and Tyler Johnson. Morgan posted a 33-14 record as a starter for the Gophers from 2018-22 and completed 661 passes (second most in school history) of 1,063 attempts (second most in school history) for 9,454 yards (second most in school history).
Before Minnesota, he spent two seasons gaining experience as an equipment intern with the NFL’s Los Angeles Rams. With the Rams, he communicated with coaches on a daily basis to assist in the setup of drills and other on-field logistics.
The Los Angeles, California native graduated in 2017 with a bachelor’s degree in accounting and marketing from Menlo College in Atherton, Calif. He was a three-year letter winner and two-year starter and captain at quarterback for the Oaks’ football team. He also earned three letters as an outfielder and captain of the baseball team. He owns the distinction of being the only athlete in Menlo school history to hit both a home run and throw a touchdown pass.
He is married to the former Abby Johnson of Minneapolis, Minn. They have one dog, Brick.
