Allie Blum Logs Two Hits in Loss to No. 2 Alabama

TUSCALOOSA, Ala. – The No. 2 Alabama Crimson Tide beat Kentucky 9-0 in five innings Friday night.

Game two of the series will be Saturday afternoon at Rhoads Stadium in Tuscaloosa with first pitch schedule for 2:30 p.m. ET. Gray Robertson and Ally Shipman on the call.

Kentucky falls to 25-23 on the year and is 1-18 in the Southeastern Conference. Alabama improves to 40-4 in 2026 overall and is now 13-3 in the SEC.

Run Recap

Alabama scored the first run of the game with back-to-back doubles in the bottom of the second inning as Jena Young doubled to the gap in left center and then scored on a double by Audrey Vandagriff. Alabama then put two in scoring position with nobody out, but both were left stranded by UK pitcher Abby Hammond. ALA 2, UK 0

In the bottom of the third, Marlie Giles hit a two-run home run with one out in the bottom of the third inning. ALA 4, UK 0

The top of the fourth brought in two runs for the Tide as Brooke Wells hit a two-run bomb to right field. ALA 6, UK 0

Kentucky failed to get an out in the fifth as Alabama hit a three-run home run to induce the run rule. FINAL – Alabama 9, Kentucky 0

Key Player

Allie Blum was the key player in Friday night’s game going 2-for-3 at the plate with Kentucky’s first hit, a double in the top of the first and adding on a single in the top of the sixth inning, as well. Blum was perfect on the night defensively, recording four putouts at second base and logging an assist, as well.

Key Moment

Brooke Wells’ two-run home run in the bottom of the fourth to make things a 6-0 advantage for the Tide to break open the game was Friday night’s key moment to the contest.

Key Stat

  1. Abby Hammond recorded four strikeouts in the game Friday night.

Pitching Recap

Abby Hammond started for the Wildcats and was removed for Hailey Nutter after 3.1 innings. Nutter went 1.2 innings before Abby Hammond entered to close the game back out for the Wildcats in the circle.
