LEXINGTON, Ky. – Kentucky women’s tennis (8-10, 0-9 SEC) hosts two SEC opponents at the Hilary J. Boone Tennis Complex this weekend, beginning with Missouri (11-11, 0-9 SEC) on Friday at 5 p.m. ET and No. 11 Vanderbilt (16-5, 6-3 SEC) on Sunday at 1 p.m. ET. Finally, back at the Boone for a full weekend, the matches will both feature promotional items that include a UK “Swag Bag” and free pizza for fans in attendance.

The Wildcats are coming off two losses against top 10 opponents. Last Friday they fell to No. 7 Texas at home, and then on the road at No. 5 Texas A&M last Sunday.

Although Kentucky did suffer two losses, they showed sparks of solid and competitive play against some of the nations best. Senior Zoe Hammond defeated the top singles player in the country on Friday, No. 1 Herea of Texas, in straight sets. This was her highest ranked singles victory in her career, most notably.

On Sunday, junior Julia Zhu picked up a ranked win of her own when she defeated No. 31 Kupres of Texas A&M on court two. Coming back from dropping the first set, Zhu showed a lot of resilience and fight for Kentucky in a much-needed time.

The Missouri Tigers (11-11, 0-9 SEC) have yet to grab a conference win and will visit Lexington in pursuit of their first. The Tigers’ last win was March 19 against Eastern Kentucky University, 4-0.

On Sunday, No. 11 Vanderbilt (16-5, 6-3 SEC) will come to town to take on the Wildcats. Vanderbilt is coming off a tough loss to LSU last weekend. The Commodores are led by four ranked singles in No. 17 Celia-Belle Mohr, No. 25 Valeria Ray, No. 33 Bridget Stammel, and No. 93 Mia Yamakita. In doubles, No. 3 Sophia Webster and Celia-Belle Mohr and No. 25 Valeria Ray and Bridget Stammel are Vanderbilt’s two ranked pairs.

Searching for the first conference win of the season, the women’s tennis Wildcats encourage fans to come out & cheer on the blue and white. Fans on Friday can enter to win a UK “Swag Bag” and pick up some free pizza on Sunday.
