Three Top 10 Marks Fall for the Wildcats on Opening Day of Outdoor Season

ORLANDO, Fla. – The Kentucky Wildcats completed the opening day of the 2026 outdoor season today at the Black and Gold Challenge in Orlando, Fla.

The Wildcats totaled three event wins on the day, coming from Kaylee Daniel, Kate Powers and Ed Bird and three top 10 program marks, including Daniel, Anthony Waterman and Ally Kruger.

Daniel and Powers kicked off the day with a pair of wins in the opening field events. Daniel cleared a personal best height of 4.07m/13-4.25 in the women’s pole vault event, the fifth-best mark in Kentucky history.

In their collegiate outdoor debuts, Kashia and Kahlia Hoo both placed inside the top 10 in the women’s 400m hurdles, with Kashia finished third with a time of 1:00.31 and Kahlia placed eighth with a 1:01.97 mark.

In the men’s half of the 400m hurdles, Waterman posted a personal best time of 50.46 to place second. That time moves the Wildcat sophomore into fourth all-time in the UK record books.

Janet Jepkemboi Amimo and Kruger both finished inside the top five in the women’s 1500m, placing fourth and fifth, respectively. Kruger posted her career-best time of 4:17.96, moving her into seventh all-time in program history.

In the final track event of the day, Bird claimed the third win for the Wildcats in the men’s 1500m race with a time of 3:43.78.

Grayson Brashear closed out the opening day of the outdoor season with a win and a career-best mark of 18.35m/60-2.5 in the men’s shot put event.

Day two of the Black and Gold Challenge will start tomorrow morning at 10 a.m. ET with five field events, including the men’s and women’s high jump, men’s and women’s discus and men’s triple jump events.
