Wildcats In Front After 36 Holes at Colleton River Collegiate
BLUFFTON, S.C. – Kentucky men’s golf holds a one-shot lead after 36 holes of play at the Colleton River Collegiate on Sunday, sitting atop the 15-team field at 12-under par.
Jack Schoenberger is tied for the individual lead at 7-under par, while Cole Stockard (T11, -3) and Jacob Lang (T17, -2) are also inside the top 20 at Colleton River Club (par 72, 7403 yards).
The Wildcats possess a one-shot advantage over Ohio State heading into tomorrow’s final round as the team looks for its first win since the 2017-18 season.
Kentucky was on the attack all day long with the starting five converting 38 birdies and an eagle, while making just a lone double-bogey.
Schoenberger is tied with Iowa’s Ryan Shellberg at the top of the 92-player field after rounds of 69 and 68. The senior captain made just two bogeys across 36 holes, while carding seven total birdies and an eagle on hole No. 2 (par 5, 548 yards) in the second round.
Stockard led all Cats with 11 birdies on day one, finishing in red figures in both the first and second rounds. The freshman took advantage of the front nine on both loops, playing holes Nos. 1-9 in 7-under par total. He birdied No. 5 (par 4, 403 yards), No. 9 (par 4, 481 yards) and No. 16 (par 5, 598 yards) in both rounds.
Also inside the top 20 is Lang, who had matching rounds of 71 on Sunday behind nine birdies. The sophomore is now up to nine rounds at par-or-better this season.
Junior transfer Luke Coyle was a counting score in both rounds with totals of 73 and 71, which leaves the Campbellsville, Ky. native in a tie for 24th at even par.
Kentucky’s individual competitor, Cameron Phillips, was 3-over par on the day and is tied for 42nd. He made five birdies, including four in a five-hole stretch, and added an eagle on No. 2 (par 5, 548 yards) during the second round.
The Wildcats will look to close the door on Monday when they play alongside Ohio State, Minnesota and Iowa. Tee times for the Cats will be off hole No. 1 from 8:55 to 9:35 a.m.
