Scales, Mudzengerere Win Gold, Wildcats Finish Fourth on Final Day at the SEC Championships

COLLEGE STATION, Texas – Today, the Kentucky Wildcats capped off a historic final day at the 2026 SEC Indoor Championships.

In the final team standings on the women’s side, the Wildcats finished in fourth place with a total of 63 points, the team’s highest placement at the indoor championships since 2022. In the men’s final standings, Kentucky finished 12th with 18 points.

This week, Kentucky totaled three gold medals, one silver medal and three bronze medals, along with 17 program top 10 marks.

Emmi Scales and Theo Mudzengerere featured as the highlights of the day for the Wildcats, both winning a gold medal in their respective events. Scales claimed her first career SEC Title in the women’s 60m hurdles final with a time of 7.85. Mudzengerere, in first season with the Wildcats, won gold in the men’s triple jump final, improving his career-best mark to 16.71m.

Freshman Doricah Minsari Isoe kicked off the track events with a fifth-place finish in the women’s mile final, running the second-fastest time in UK history with a mark of 4:35.71, now only behind Allison Peare for the program record.

In the women’s 60m final, Sharmelle Holmes began the streak on medal for the Wildcats, winning silver with a career-best time of 7.19, tying the third-best mark in school history.

Hannah Douglas and Vanice Kerubo Nyagisera would continue that streak into the women’s 400m and 800m finals, respectively, both earning a bronze medal and a personal best time. Douglas finished at 51.41, landing at No. 3 in the Kentucky record books and Kerubo Nyagisera improved her school record time to 2:01.40.

In the men’s 200m final, Denzel Simusialela added another top 10 program time to the UK tally this weekend with a fourth-place finish and a time of 20.47, the fourth-best time in the record books.

With the conclusion of conference championship week, postseason competition for the 2026 indoor season will now turn to the NCAA Championships on Mar. 13-14 in Fayetteville, Ark.
