KNOXVILLE, Tenn. – The Kentucky Swimming and Diving team completed competition on day three with highlights coming from A-Finalists Adomas Gatulis and Lysander Osman, along with strong performances from the entire squad to get the Wildcats up on the scoreboard.
The morning prelims started off with the 100 back for both the men’s and women’s team. On the men’s side, the competition was elite and the Cats were among the best of the best. In the third heat of the preliminary, junior Devin Naoroz qualified for the B-Final with a second-best program time of 45.75. Two heats later it was the freshman from France, Lysander Osman, who set the new program record with 44.87 and made his way to the A-Final in the evening.
The men continued to roll in prelims with the 200 butterfly as Javier Lopez-Guillen qualified for the B-Final with the program’s third-best time. Wrapping up with the 200 breaststroke, Sarah Anne Shaffer notched a 1:01.03, putting her in the C-Final for the women’s squad. The men wrapped up prelims with two additional finalist in Cayden Pitzer (52.26), B-Finalist, and Adomas Gatulis (51.35) in the A-Final. Although they did not qualify for finals, JT Broome (53.68) swam the seventh-fastest time and Esteban Nunez Del Prado (52.26) the sixth-fastest time in school history.
Moving onto the evening, the Wildcats continued to disrupt the competition. Naoroz (45.32) finished first in the 100 backstroke B-Final and Osman (44.76) finished sixth in the A-Final. With that pace, that put the duo of Osman and Naoroz set the first and second best program times twice in a single day.
In the 200 butterfly B-Final, Lopez-Guillen finished second in the B-Final in 1:42.10 and tenth overall in the SEC. In the 100 breaststroke, Shaffer finished third in the C-Final in 1:00.51. Pitzer (52.36) finished fourth place in the B-Final and Gatulis (51.51) wrapped up the night swimming for a fifth place A-Final finish.
