WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. – Coming off an impressive win against JMU in Durham, N.C., the Kentucky Women’s tennis team continued on the road on Saturday, playing Purdue in West Lafayette, Indiana. The team excelled in both doubles and singles play, securing the match 4-2 and putting them at a stellar 4-1 overall record for the season.

The Cats started off doubles play strong with No. 3 pair Zoe Hammond & Ellie Myers leaving no room for error, defeating Purdue’s Clement/Kolyszko 6-1. On court two, the pair of Julia Zhu and Marina Fuduric fell to Purdue’s Wilson/Gencer, 6-1. With teams tied in doubles points, the Wildcats No. 1 pair Reese Sager and Asuncion Jadue finish doubles play strong clinching the match against Purdue’s Wilson/Gutierrez, 6-2, securing the doubles point for Kentucky.
In singles, with the 1-0 lead, the first Wildcat to win a singles point was freshman Sager, making a statement and defeating Purdue’s Kayal Gownder, 6-3, 6-3. Jadue followed in line after taking the lead in a tight first set, which motivated her to dominate from there on. Jadue ended up defeating Purdue’s Fatima Gutierrez 7-6 (8), 6-0.

The Cats fell short on two courts with Hammond and freshman Elena Molla both in a close battle of their own. With the Cats at 3-2, Zhu pulls out an essential match for the Cats, battling for control of the court and defeating Purdue’s Ida Clement 6-3, 6-7(4), 6-2, securing the last singles point for the Cats and pulling out a stellar win on the road.
