Big Blue Preview: No. 11/12 Kentucky Women’s Basketball Plays Host to RV/RV Georgia on Saturday

LEXINGTON, Ky. – The No. 11/12 University of Kentucky women’s basketball program (17-4, 4-3 Southeastern Conference), who also is 13th in the latest NET rankings, will play host to RV/RV Georgia (17-3, 3-3 SEC) in Historic Memorial Coliseum on Saturday, Jan. 24 at 1 p.m. ET.

The game, which was originally scheduled for Sunday, Jan. 25 at Noon ET, was moved up one day earlier because of the expected winter storm.

All tickets purchased for the Kentucky-Georgia meeting remain valid. Also, fans with a Kentucky-Ole Miss men’s basketball ticket can show that ticket at the women’s basketball entrances for free general admission.

Doors to enter Historic Memorial Coliseum will open at Noon ET.

Parking will remain the same.

UK Athletics recommends nine parking locations for fans attending games this season, including two parking locations with shuttle transportation (The Cornerstone Garage, High Street Lot).

The shuttle at those parking locations starts 90 minutes prior to tip-off and breaks at the end of the first quarter. It resumes at the start of the third quarter and runs one hour postgame.

Fans can still listen to the game on UK Sports Network on 98.5 FM (Lexington) and 790 AM (Louisville), with Darren Headrick on the call.

The game, which was originally scheduled to be broadcast on SEC Network, will now be streamed on SEC Network+, with local voice Noah Frary on the call.

It will remain the program’s annual alumni game and coaches vs. cancer game. The women’s basketball staff will be wearing shoes that will be donated to raise money for the pediatric hematology oncology program at Golisano Children’s Hospital.

Kentucky is coming off back-to-back road losses at Mississippi State, 71-59, last Sunday and at No. 17/17 Tennessee, 60-58, on Thursday. Those losses and also its recent loss at RV/ No. 24 Alabama, 64-51, on Jan. 8 were without starting forward Teonni Key, who suffered an arm injury against Missouri in the second league game of the season.

In her absence, Asia Boone, junior guard, entered the starting lineup and is adding 9.9 ppg and 2.3 3FG per game in league games. Amelia Hassett, senior forward, is also averaging 2.3 3FG per game in league games, while the tandem are tied for sixth place in 3FG per game in SEC action.

Hassett recently led Kentucky in scoring at Tennessee on 16 points, knocking down 4-of-7 from behind the arc. Kentucky has had seven leading scorers through 21 games in 2025-26.

Pacing the team in scoring through seven SEC games is Tonie Morgan, senior point guard, with 18.9 ppg for eighth in the league, while she is also dishing out 8.4 apg for first in the league. Clara Strack, junior center, is tacking on 13.7 ppg and 11.3 rpg in league games, while her rebounds are second in the SEC.

Despite the Wildcats’ loss at the Lady Vols’ house on Thursday, it marked the first time in program history that the Cats held the Vols to 60 points or fewer in 33 meetings in Knoxville. The Cats also held the Vols to 34.3 percent shooting, UK’s best FG% defense against UT in Knoxville since at least 2002-03.

UK is 13th in the nation and fourth in the league in FG% defense (35.1). Meanwhile, it is holding opponents to 55.9 ppg, which is the best in program history as of Jan. 23.

Saturday will mark the 67th all-time meeting between Kentucky and Georgia. Kentucky trails the all-time meetings with Georgia, 41-25, in a series that began in 1980. The Cats also trail the series with the Lady Dogs in Lexington, 15-13.

The Wildcats have a three-game winning streak over the Lady Dogs, not dropping a game against them since Feb. 2, 2024, on the road. The last time the Cats lost at home to the Dogs was on Feb. 16, 2023 (50-40).

The two teams were each other’s rotating home-and-home opponent last season.

In their last meeting, UK defeated UGA by a 29-point margin of victory (84-55) on Feb. 26, 2025, in Historic Memorial Coliseum.
