Kentucky heads south as the last team in the league to open conference play, closing up the non-conference slate against Arizona State in Lexington last Friday. The Wildcats are looking to snap a two-meet streak of overall scores in the 194s. Against the Sun Devils, Kentucky achieved event scores of 49+ on three out of four events, but an uncharacteristic beam rotation hampered the Cats’ overall total.
The Wildcats feature two athletes in the NCAA Top 10 event rankings, with sophomore Anna Flynn Cashion tied for fourth on vault and junior Delaynee Rodriguez slotted at No. 10 in the all-around. Cashion has won event titles on the vault in both meets this year, holding a 9.912 average on the event. Rodriguez has been victorious in the all-around twice this season, scoring 39.400 on both occasions. The Las Vegas native also claimed the first victories of her career on both balance beam and floor exercise at Excite Night.
Kentucky ranks No. 11 in the country on vault, holding an average score of 49.175 through two meets. The Wildcats have posted the top team score on vault in both of their meets this season and most recently posted a season best 49.250 at Excite Night, capped by Cashion’s winning vault that matched her career high score at 9.950.
Kentucky will return to Historic Memorial Coliseum next Friday, taking on No. 2 Oklahoma for its SEC home opener. The Cats will battle the defending national champions at 6 p.m. ET on January 30. The meet will be televised nationally on SEC Network. Tickets are available for the meet at ukathletics.com/gymtix or on Ticketmaster.
