Kentucky Quotes

Head Coach Kenny Brooks

Opening Statement…

“I am extremely proud of the effort that they gave to really buckle down at the end, salvaging a win. Although it wasn’t pretty. We did not play well in that third quarter. I don’t think I’ve ever been associated with a team that gave the other team thirty-five points in a quarter, but we lost our focus. They capitalized, don’t get me wrong, I think Florida is a really good basketball team. They went down to the wire with South Carolina and went down to the wire with Tennessee. I think they are going to cause some havoc, especially if they shoot the basketball that way. Where we are right now, we need to continue to get better, but we are reinventing ourselves. When you don’t have Teonni, and you have to switch everything up, it’s a body that is taken out and taken away from us. It’s fouls, and then Clara has to play a certain way, and Tonie has to play a certain way. I don’t have very many plays in our playbook that don’t involve Clara or Teonni. So I was proud of Tonie; we put her in predicaments that were rough tonight. She did a really good job. Clara also did a really good job defensively. We put her in too many tough situations. We will watch this game and learn from it. We will turn the page, because if you allow one game to snowball into two or you don’t play well, you can find yourself looking up at a lot of good teams in the SEC conference. I am very proud of our kids.”

#13, Clara Strack

On elevating her leadership without Teonni…

“I think my main focus on here is improving my leadership. I think Toni’s done a good job of stepping up too, to have another leader on the court. Teonni’s obviously still there for the bench, but I think that’s definitely been something I’ve been trying to do is get better at that game by game as we go through the season.”

On maintain focus during frustrating times…

“I just stay engaged if I’m on the floor, if I’m not on the floor, not letting fouls or anything like that get in my head or get to me.”

On running into defensive issues without Teonni…

“Yeah, a little, but I can’t let that get into my head too much.  I’ll tell you something. Her defense is better this year than it was last year. We put her in, and it’s almost like a weapon. I hit a wide screen and she does a tremendous job of being the second line of me.”

#5, Tonie Morgan

On whether players with a tempo like McGill bring out more in her game

“Um, she’s a good player. We were ready for her. I think we held her to a good amount of shots. But yea, it’s always a fun game no matter who’s in front of us. But we got it done and that was the goal for us.”
