No. 6 Kentucky Falls at Alabama on Thursday

Tonie Morgan scored 14 points, grabbed nine rebounds and handed out five assists, but No. 6 Kentucky lost at Alabama 64-51 on Thursday night inside Coleman Coliseum.

Asia Boone was the only other UK player to score in double figures in the game. She had 12 points before fouling out in the fourth quarter.

Kentucky, playing without starting forward Teonni Key who missed the game due to injury, got on the board first via a Clara Strack free throw. After an Alabama basket, Boone hit a corner three to give UK a 4-2 lead. Morgan scored on an acrobatic layup, Amelia Hassett hit a three and Morgan scored on a three-point play to give UK an 11-2 lead early.

Alabama scored the next 10 points to lead before UK got a basket from Morgan and a Jordan Obi three to take a 16-12 lead. The Cats led 16-15 after one period.

Boone hit another three to get the scoring started in quarter two. However, the Tide scored eight in a row before a Boone jump shot made it 23-21. After the Tide scored, Hassett hit another three to get UK within one, 25-24. But Alabama responded again, scoring nine in a row to lead 34-24.

Another Boone basket cut the deficit to eight, but Alabama responded to lead by 10 again. A Kaelyn Carroll three completed the scoring in the first half, which saw Alabama holding a 36-29 lead at the break. Boone led the Cats with 12 points in the first half.

Alabama scored the first five points of the second half, but UK rallied with a Morgan jumper, an Obi layup and two Boone free throws to get within six, 41-35. However, the Tide closed the third quarter on a 14-3 run and Alabama took a 55-38 lead into the final stanza.

The Tide would lead by as many as 23 in the final quarter before UK went on an 10-0 run to get within 13 points, 62-49.

Kentucky returns to action on Sunday, hosting Oklahoma inside Historic Memorial Coliseum. Tipoff is set for 4 p.m. ET and the game can be seen on the SEC Network.
