Wildcats Total 10 Wins, Eight Top 10 Marks in Indoor Season Opener at Commodore Winter Challenge

NASHVILLE, Tenn. – The Kentucky Wildcats kicked off the new indoor track season today in Nashville, Tenn. at the Commodore Winter Challenge, featuring as the final meet of the 2025 calendar year.

In the first meet of the 2025-26 season, the Wildcats totaled 10 event wins on the day, including Kate Powers (Weight Throw), Grayson Brashear (Weight Throw), Emmi Scales (60m Hurdles), Miles Jones (60m), Sharmelle Holmes (60m) and Meagan Ewers (Shot Put) at the top of the day.

Eight Wildcats also improved their personal best times in their respective events, along with climbing the all-time UK leaderboard. Those top 10 marks for the Cats included Emmi Scales posted the fourth-fastest time (8.05) in the women’s 60m hurdles final, Anthony Waterman ran the eighth-best time (7.90) in the men’s 60m hurdles final. Miles Jones ran the ninth-fastest time (6.65) in the men’s 60m final and Hannah Douglas finished with the fifth-best time (37.42) in the women’s 300m.

Later in the afternoon, junior transfer Tyrique Johnson, in his first meet with Kentucky, ran the 10th-fastest indoor 300m time, crossing the finish line at a career-best 33.88.

In the men’s and women’s 600m events, freshman Vanice Kerubo Nyagisera and junior Patrick Faust both set a new program record, winning their respective events with times of 1:26.99 and 1:18.29.

In the women’s 4x400m relay, the Cats sent four teams into the event, placing second, fourth, fifth and seventh. In the men’s relay, Kentucky placed second with a time of 3:09.88.

The Wildcats will have a little over a month before their next meet, as they are set to host the annual Rod McCravy Memorial Invitational at the Norton Center in Louisville, Ky. after the turn of the calendar on Jan. 9-10.
