Wildcats Post Top Air Rifle Team Score, Probst Wins Air Rifle Final on Final Day of 2025 WVU Fall Classic
LEXINGTON, Ky. – The University of Kentucky rifle team did not have their best performance Saturday, but responded in a big way during air rifle competition Sunday, posting the highest air rifle team score and dominating the individual air rifle final at the last day of the 2025 WVU Fall Classic in Morgantown, West Virginia.
Sophomores Liz Probst and Sam Adkins along with senior Sofia Ceccarello made the air rifle individual final after strong performances during regular competition. In the final, Probst earned the top spot, followed by Adkins in second place and Ceccarello finishing fourth.
It is the second straight day the Wildcats have dominated the individual final. During the smallbore final Saturday, Ceccarello finished first with Adkins in second and Probst in fifth place.
“Was happy to see us compete today and put together a good team score,” UK head coach Harry Mullins said. “Congrats to Liz, Sam and Sofia for their performances both days in the individual finals. Really proud of how they handled those situations. Overall, we have a lot of work to do to be where we want to be. We have a week to regroup before we host a really good Murray State team next weekend at home. I hope Big Blue Nation comes out and supports the team in their final competition of the 2025 schedule.”
Kentucky posted a 2386 air rifle team score, which was the best of the competition. WVU posted a 2385, while Morehead State scored 2365, North Georgia a 2336, Mount Aloysius 2313 and Wofford a 2294.
Overall, WVU, which hosted the event, claimed the top team spot with a 4742. Kentucky was second with a 4715, followed by Morehead State, North Georgia, Mount Aloysius and Wofford.
The two-day, NCAA Championship-style event featured smallbore Saturday and air rifle Sunday. Teams were split across two relays each day with a 8-12 person individual final following each day.
