Ceccarello, Adkins, Probst Shine in Individual Final at WVU Fall Classic

LEXINGTON, Ky. – University of Kentucky rifle stars Sofia Ceccarello, Sam Adkins and Liz Probst performed well in the smallbore individual final Saturday, wrapping up UK’s first day at the WVU Fall Classic in Morgantown, West Virginia.

Ceccarello won the final on the last shot of the competition with Adkins finishing tenths behind her in second place. Probst performed well and finished in fifth.

Overall as a team, Kentucky sits in second place after a 2329 smallbore team score. WVU, which is hosting the event, is first after the first day with a 2357. Morehead State, North Georgia, Wofford and Mount Aloysius are also at the event and are ranked behind Kentucky in respective order.

The two-day competition will conclude Sunday with air rifle. UK will be split between two relays with the first relay starting at 9 a.m. ET and second relay at approx. 11 a.m. ET. An individual air rifle final will take place at approx. 1 p.m. ET.

Before UK’s success in the individual final, the Wildcats were led in regular smallbore competition by Adkins and Probst, who each scored 585s. Adkins shot a 191 in kneeling, 198 in prone and 196 in standing. Probst posted a 193 in kneeling, 194 in prone and 198 in standing.

Ceccarello was right behind them with a 580, earning a 196 in kneeling, 198 in prone and 188 in standing. UK’s final countable score was Martin Voss at 579, scoring a 193 in kneeling, 199 in prone and 187 in standing.

Also performing for UK was Jacob St. Hilaire with a 575, Brandon Evans with a 572, Elisa Boozer with a 572, AJ Hotko with a 571, Hannah Todd with a 568 and Emily Marne with a 550.

Following the WVU Fall Classic, UK will return home Nov. 22 to compete against Murray State inside the UK Rifle Range. It will be the final fall match of the season before UK breaks for the holidays and returns to competition Jan. 17 in Fairbanks, Alaska.
