On the flip side, the Thundering Herd press defense is holding teams to 49.7 points per game, recently coming off a narrow defeat at the Indiana Hoosiers, 57-51, on Tuesday.
Kentucky had a monster triumph over USC Upstate in its last game, 90-30, at Historic Memorial Coliseum on Wednesday. Clara Strack, a 6-5 junior center, is leading the team on 17.3 points per game, 12.3 rebounds per game and 3.5 blocks per game. Not only is she leading the team, but she is first in the SEC and 16th in the nation in rebounds, first in the SEC and first in the nation in blocks and first in the SEC and first in the nation in double-doubles. Tonie Morgan, a 5-9 senior point guard, who is averaging 10.0 points per game and 9.5 assists per game, also is first in the league and second in the nation in assists per game.
Morgan, an all-conference transfer student out of Georgia Tech, had a monster night herself against USC Upstate. She dished out a career-high 16 assists, which tied the 43-year-old, single-game school record set by Patty Jo Hedges in 1982, and zero assists, adding 11 points for her first double-double of the season. In the process, she eclipsed 500 career assists, while her current 506 career assists are currently third most among active players in all three divisions in the nation.
Because 16 assists & 0 turnovers deserves another post! 😼
