Eva Hudson Named SEC Player of the Week, O’Brien Wins Freshman
LEXINGTON, Ky. – Kentucky Volleyball players Eva Hudson and Kassie O’Brien were honored by the Southeastern Conference office Monday afternoon as Hudson was named the overall player of the week in the league as well as SEC Offensive Player of the Week. O’Brien was named SEC Freshman of the Week for the fourth time this year. The SEC volleyball players of the week are presented by Allstate.
Hudson, the reigning AVCA National Player of the Week, was responsible for 40 kills this week as Kentucky beat Mizzou on the road and No. 19 Tennessee inside Historic Memorial Coliseum. Hudson logged her seventh double-double of the season Thursday night as she recorded 21 kills on 39 swings with only two errors accompanied by 11 digs and three stuffs as she took the lead on the team for double-doubles. Hudson followed that up with a 19-kill performance against Tennessee with a .381 hitting percentage. Hudson also had an ace in both matches.
O’Brien had 40-plus assists in both matches this week as she averaged 10.75 assists per set, leading Kentucky to a .289 hitting percentage with 46 assists against Mizzou and 40 against Tennessee on Sunday afternoon. O’Brien also had her sixth double-double of the week on Sunday with a 40-assist, 12-dig performance against the Lady Vols on Sunday as O’Brien also had a career-high tying eight blocks Thursday and half of that Sunday for 12 on the week.
Kentucky, who played in front of a season-high 6,236 fans at home Sunday afternoon will play next against Oklahoma at 7 p.m. ET on Friday night in Historic Memorial Coliseum. UK is one win away from clinching a share of its ninth-straight SEC Championship. If UK wins both of its remaining matches, it will be outright champions.
