Wildcats Fall to Memphis in Home Opener
LEXINGTON, Ky. – Competing for the first time at home this season, the University of Kentucky rifle team fell to Memphis 4705-4715 on Saturday inside the UK Rifle Range in Lexington, Kentucky.
“It’s tough when you don’t get to see the result of your hard work during competition and that is what happened today, unfortunately,” UK head coach Harry Mullins said. “I think we did some good things, but we also did some things that hurt us and we have to learn from it.”
Kentucky posted a 2329 in smallbore and 2376 in air rifle for a team aggregate of 4705. Memphis won the match with a 2346 in smallbore and 2369 in air rifle for a 4715 aggregate.
In smallbore, Kentucky was led by Sam Adkins with a 586, including a 200 in prone. Martin Voss followed with a strong 584, scoring a 199 in prone. Brandon Evans earned a 580, while Liz Probst and Elisa Boozer scored 579s. AJ Hotko posted a 567, while Jacob St. Hilaire earned a 563 and Hannah Todd a 562. Emily Marne posted a 558 to wrap up UK’s scoring.
UK defeated Memphis in air rifle, led by Probst and Adkins each scoring 598s. Voss and St. Hilaire scored 591s, while Evans and Boozer earned 589s. Todd scored a 588, while Hotko posted a 578 and Marne a 567.
Kentucky will return to action next weekend when it travels to Morgantown, West Virginia to compete in the WVU Fall Classic. The Wildcats will be joined at the event by Morehead State, North Georgia, Wofford, Mount Aloysius and host West Virginia.
The two-day event will being Saturday, Nov. 15 and conclude Sunday, Nov. 16. Live targets and NCAA Scorecard will be available online at UKathletics.com.
