Johan Cedergren, Sebastian Conlon Highlight Eight Wildcats to Receive SBC Postseason Awards
NEW ORLEANS, La. – Following a 10-win regular season and a conference title in 2025, Eight Wildcats have earned Sun Belt Conference postseason superlatives, per the release from the conference office Friday afternoon.
Goalkeeper Sebastian Conlon highlighted the announcement for the Wildcats by receiving SBC Goalkeeper of the Year honors for the second consecutive season after recording 45 saves, a .750 save percentage, seven clean sheets and the second-best goals against tally in the Sun Belt at 15. In 2024, Conlon was awarded Goalkeeper of the Year following his junior year at James Madison. This fall, the Wildcat goalkeeper has also been named to the Hermann Midseason Watchlist and the TopDrawerSoccer Midseason Top 100, coming in at No. 60.
For the fifth time in his career, and second since joining the SBC, head coach Johan Cedergren has been named as the 2025 Sun Belt Coach of the Year. Cedergren led the Wildcats to their 11th winning season in his 14-year tenure in Lexington since taking over the program in 2012. In Kentucky’s 3-2 win over UCF on Sept. 19, Cedergren earned his 150th career win.
Three Wildcats were named to the All-Sun Belt First Team, including Conlon, defender Marqes Muir and midfielder Agustin Lopez. This features as the second consecutive season both Muir and Lopez has reached an all-conference team, with both received All-SBC Second Team honors in 2024.
Three more Wildcats received All-Sun Belt Second Team honors, including forwards Alex Ruiz and Isaiah Chisolm and Alex Ruiz and midfielder Kevin Larsson. Ruiz and Chisolm feature as the Wildcats’ leading goalscorers with seven and six, respectively, and Larsson, in his first season in Lexington after transferring from James Madison, has recorded two goals and two assists, along with a SBC Offensive Player of the Week award.
In the final superlative for Kentucky, midfielder Marcus Andersen was listed to the SBC All-Freshman Team after logging 15 appearances and 10 starts for the Wildcats and recording one assist in his first collegiate season.
The Wildcats will play host to the first and second rounds of the 2025 SBC Tournament in the kickoff to postseason play this Sunday, Nov. 9 at 3 p.m. ET against No. 8 seed Coastal Carolina at The Bell.
