LOUISVILLE, Ky. – The Kentucky swimming and diving program fell on the road at rival No. 7/12 Louisville on Thursday, but competition was highlighted by a school record from the freshman Falemana Tuufui in the 50 free, marking himself as the fastest Wildcat in school history in just his third collegiate dual meet and aiding the 200 medley relay with a program record as well. The men fell to the Cardinals 209-91, while the women fell 218-82.
It was Tuufui who shined once again for the Wildcats, setting the new 50 free record with a time of 19.25 and beating the previous record by Peter Wetzler (19.27) in 2020. He also set a new top 10 time in the 100 free, at 42.96 checking in at number seven all-time.
Another new program record was set by the men’s 200 medley relay team of Tuufui, Lysander Osman, Adomas Gatulis, and Esteban Nunez Del Prado with a time of 1:24.48.
Javier Lopez Guillen also cracked the top ten in the 200 fly, with a time of 1:44.44, the tenth fastest in school history in that event. Junior Carson Hick won the 1000 free in 8:54.41, with senior Levi Sandidge .10 behind for second. Gatulis was the winner of the 100 breast in 52.89.
On the women’s side, Billie Sherratt stood out as a winner in the 200 fly, swimming an impressive 1:57.74. Libby Grether cracked the top ten with the ninth best time in program history and a new personal best in the 1000 freestyle (9:49.41).
The diver’s had top three finishes as well, with Avery Giese grabbing second in the 1m dive (287.85), Gabriel Perdigao with the third place event finish in the 3m (322.73), and Pfaff in both the 3m (302.40) and 1m (281.40).
Although the Wildcats fell, they look to these impressive performances as fuel for the continuation of the season. The next meet will be the mid-season mark at Ohio State from Nov. 18-21 held in Columbus.
