Cole Stockard Collects SEC Freshman of the Week Honors

LEXINGTON, Ky. – After coming away with the individual title at this week’s Cullan Brown Collegiate, Cole Stockard of Kentucky men’s golf was named the Southeastern Conference Freshman of the Week, it was announced by the league on Wednesday.

Stockard secured his first collegiate win in just his third college start, going 6-under par over 36 holes to win by one at the weather-shortened Cullan Brown Collegiate, hosted by UK at Lexington Country Club.

He is the first Kentucky men’s golfer to win a tournament since Alex Goff won the Blessings Collegiate in October of 2020 and the first Wildcat freshman to medal at an event since Chip McDaniel was victorious at the 2015 Quail Valley Collegiate Invitational.

The native of Dalton, Ga. came out with a career-best round of 66 (-5) over his first 18 holes and then birdied his final hole of round two to edge in front of the field and secure the title. Stockard made 11 birdies in the tournament, tied for the most in the field, helping the Cats to a runner-up result as a team at their home event.

Stockard owns a 71.13 stroke average over eight rounds played this season and has already racked up five rounds at par-or-better, including two this past week.

The Wildcats have now had a golfer earn SEC Freshman of the Week honors in consecutive seasons after Jacob Lang was awarded the distinction last February.
