Wildcats In Contention At Cullan Brown Collegiate

LEXINGTON, Ky. – Kentucky men’s golf finds itself in second place as a team, while five Wildcats are inside the top 20 individually after a full Monday of action at the Cullan Brown Collegiate, held at Lexington Country Club (par 71, 7255 yards).

On a day where the 15-team field was slated to play 36 holes, the onset of darkness prevented the conclusion of round two. At the time of the horn’s sound, the Wildcats were 11-under par as a team, just one shot behind the leaders, Mississippi State.

Round two is scheduled to resume at 9 a.m. on Tuesday morning with players moving directly into round three thereafter. Significant rainfall and thunderstorms are forecasted for the area on Tuesday, meaning the event faces the possibility of being shortened to 36 holes.

Freshman Cole Stockard led Kentucky on Monday. Sparked by a career-best 66 (-5) in round one, Stockard is tied for second at 5-under total, one shot off the pace of Cincinnati’s Ryan Ford. The native of Dalton, Ga. made 10 birdies on the day, including eight in the first round alone. His 10 birdies are tied for the most by a player in the tournament.

Gavin Clutts, who is playing as an individual this week, is tied for sixth at 4-under par total. Clutts, who was even-par across his first 18 holes, is currently 4-under par on his second round with four holes remaining.

Jack Schoenberger, Jacob Settles and Cameron Phillips are all among the players tied for 16th at 1-under, while Jacob Lang and Luke Coyle are T28 at even-par. Freshman Charles Cauthen is 1-over par and in a tie for 36th. Impressively, all eight Wildcats finished the day in the top half of the 90-player field, combining for a whopping 49 birdies collectively.

Kentucky men’s golf is bidding for its first win as a team since the 2018 Gary Koch Invitational. UK’s last individual champion was Alex Goff, who won the Blessings Collegiate back in October of 2020.

The Cullan Brown Collegiate is named in honor of former Wildcat golfer, Cullan Brown, a member of the Kentucky men’s golf team from 2018-2020 who was tragically lost after a battle with Osteosarcoma. Brown was an All-SEC Freshman Team selection in 2019 following a season in which the Eddyville, Ky. native posted a 72.42 scoring average and four top-20 finishes.
