Agustin Lopez Scores Brace, Wildcats Win 2-0 at Coastal Carolina

CONWAY, S.C. – The 18th-ranked Kentucky Wildcats (5-0-3, 2-0-0 SBC) remain unbeaten in 2025 with a 2-0 win over the Coastal Carolina Chanticleers (1-5-0, 0-2-0 SBC) on Sunday night in Conway, S.C.

The Wildcats earn their second win in Sun Belt Conference play, adding three more points to their season tally to continue to share first place atop the SBC standings with Georgia Southern and West Virginia. The win in Conway also improves Kentucky’s overall record this season to 5-0-3 through the opening eight games of 2025.

Coastal Carolina started the game off strong, creating early scoring opportunities and putting the Wildcats on the backfoot during the first 15 minutes of the first half. Goalkeeper Sebastian Conlon came up with an incredible kick save in the 12th minute in a 1v1 chance with Chants’ midfielder Loed Klassen to keep the scoreline level at 0-0.

Midfielder Agustin Lopez opened the scoring in the 31st minute of the match from the penalty spot, in a penalty awarded from a foul on defender Max Miller. The Argentine-international scored his first goal of the season with a swift kick to the bottom right corner of the goal, putting the Cats up 1-0.

Lopez scored his second goal of the season less than two minutes later in the 33rd minute, coming off an assist from Miller and Josh Gordon, to double the Wildcats advantage with just over 10 minutes remaining in the half. Kentucky would maintain a two-goal lead heading into the halftime break.

Both sides were able to create goal-scoring opportunities in the second 45 minutes, but were unable to test either teams’ goalkeeper, as the Wildcats would protect their perfect record and take down Coastal Carolina with a 2-0 win in Conway.

Kentucky outshot the Chants 10-7, including a 4-1 advantage in shots on goal. Conlon and the Wildcats’ defense earn their fourth clean sheet of the season with the performance tonight, including two timely blocked shots from Gordon and the kick save from Conlon.

The Wildcats will end a two-match road trip and return to Lexington on Saturday, Oct. 4 for an alumni night matchup against James Madison at The Bell at 7 p.m.
