Late Goal Dooms Wildcats at No. 21 Georgia
ATHENS, Ga. – Playing in its first road match of the season, Kentucky (7-3-0, 1-1-0 SEC) was unable to capture its second consecutive ranked victory, falling 1-0 at No. 21 Georgia (6-2-2, 2-0-0 SEC).
The match seemed prime to end in a scoreless draw, but a 79th minute strike from Ava Stack into the upper right corner of the goal was enough to push the homestanding Bulldogs past the Wildcats.
In contrast with the majority of Kentucky’s game this season, it was their opposition who dominated the ball, with Georgia controlling the majority of possession and outshooting the Wildcats, 10-3.
Kentucky saw the best chance of the opening half of play in the 30th minute, as Thalia Morisi put the ball into the back of the net off a corner kick but saw her goal waved off due to an offsides call.
Neither team had a real scoring threat until the 75th minute, when Kentucky keeper Khadijah Cissé stopped a mid-range shot for one of her two saves on the ninth. However, the freshman from Montreal was unable to stop Stack’s attempt four minutes later, with the match’s lone goal slotting into the net perfectly between the the outstretched arms of Cissé and the corner post.
The Wildcats pushed for an equalizer, with Catherine Rapp forcing Georgia’s only save of the night in 82nd minute. Yet, the Wildcats were shut out for just the second time this season—both against ranked opponents.
Kentucky will return home and complete its first two-match conference weekend on Sunday, September 21, hosting Missouri at the Bell Soccer Complex at 1 p.m. ET. Admission to all 2025 Kentucky Soccer regular season home matches will be free to the public.
