Kentucky Faces No. 21 Georgia in Road Opener
ATHENS, Ga. – After wrapping up a season-opening nine-match homestand last Friday, Kentucky (7-2-0, 1-0-0 SEC) will hit the road for the first time this season, traveling to Athens to face No. 21 Georgia (5-2-2, 1-0-0 SEC) on Thursday, September 18 at 6:30 p.m. ET. The match will take place at the Turner Soccer Complex and will be streamed live on SEC Network +.
The match with the Bulldogs will mark the third consecutive ranked opponent that Kentucky has faced, with the Cats falling to No. 20 Ohio State in their non-conference finale before knocking off No. 20 Oklahoma on SEC opening night. The win over the Sooners marked the program’s third consecutive season with a ranked victory.
The Cats’ win over Oklahoma was also a historic moment for Head Coach Troy Fabiano, as the fourth-year skipper picked up his first victory in an SEC opener and the first for the program since 2015.
The Wildcats are led by three different players who have scored 15 points this season—Catherine Rapp, Anna Sikorski, and Alexis Tylenda. Sikorski and Tylenda lead the team with six goals apiece to go along with three assists, while Rapp has scored five goals and assisted on five more, a team lead. Tanner Strickland has also added five assists, sharing the team lead with Rapp.
Kentucky and Georgia have met 31 prior times, with the Bulldogs holding a 16-9-6 advantage in the series. Fabiano is searching for his first win over Georgia, having faced the Dogs four times in his previous three season in Lexington and holding a 0-3-1 record in those contests. Most recently, Kentucky and Georgia played to a 1-1 draw in Lexington last season.
Kentucky will return home and complete its first two-match conference weekend on Sunday, September 21, hosting Missouri at the Bell Soccer Complex at 1 p.m. ET. Admission to all 2025 Kentucky Soccer regular season home matches will be free to the public.
