Wildcats Rally in Round Two, 18 to Play at Bearcat Invitational

CINCINNATI – The Kentucky men’s golf team is in 11th place after day one of play at the Bearcat Invitational, going 6-over par as a team through the first 36 holes at Coldstream Country Club (par 71, 7279 yards).

After carding 291 (+7) in the opening round, the Wildcats shaved eight shots on their second loop around the course, turning in a 1-under par effort of 283. The host school, Cincinnati, leads the tournament at 12-under par total, but the Cats are just five shots outside the top five on a congested 18-team leaderboard.

Building off his top 15 at the Visit Knox Collegiate, sophomore Jacob Lang leads the way for Kentucky at 2-under par total, good for a tie for 13th. Lang posted consecutive 1-under rounds of 70 on Monday, while making eight birdies on the day to lead all Wildcats. He has now signed for scores of par-or-better in four of his first five rounds this season.

Luke Coyle, a junior transfer, is tied for 33rd in the 96-player field at 2-over par. He is followed closely by Cole Stockard (T-43, +3) and Jack Schoenberger (T-50, +4). Coyle made four birdies in his second round in route to an even-par score of 71, while Stockard posted his first under-par round as a collegian with his card of 70 (-1) in the opening round. Schoenberger had the low 18 of the day for the Wildcats with a 68 (-3) in round two, dropping 10 shots from his first-round total of 78 (+7). The senior captain’s sparkling second round featured six birdies.

Making his debut in the starting lineup, freshman Charles Cauthen shot 78-74 and stands at 10-over par in a tie for 84th. In his first collegiate event, individual Cameron Phillips is tied for 87th at 11-over par.

Tuesday’s final round will begin with a 9 a.m. shotgun start. Kentucky will be paired with Memphis, Ohio State and Augusta with starting holes from No. 9 (par 4, 393 yards) through No. 12 (par 4, 467 yards).
