Ty Bryant Nationally Recognized for Standout Week Two Performance

Kentucky junior safety Ty Bryant’s standout performance last weekend made him one of two players nationally to receive honorable mention recognition from the Paycom Jim Thorpe Award National DB of the Week, it was announced Tuesday. Collin Matteson of Army received the other honorable mention nod.

Bryant, from Lexington, Kentucky, provided a sensational effort against No. 20/14 Ole Miss and its high-powered offense. The 6-foot-0, 198-pounder intercepted a pair of passes in the first quarter that Kentucky turned into 10 points. He now has three interceptions in his career. Bryant became the first Wildcat with two interceptions in a Southeastern Conference home game since Anthony Wajda against LSU in 1999.

Bryant also added a team-high 10 tackles and 0.5 tackle for loss. His 16 total tackles in the Wildcats’ first two games rank second on the team and fourth in the SEC.

UK (1-1, 0-1 SEC) returns to Kroger Field this Saturday night against Eastern Michigan. Kickoff is set for 7:30 p.m. ET on ESPNU. For ticket information, go to UKAthletics.com.
