Merideth Jewell Frey Named Associate Head Volleyball Coach

LEXINGTON, Ky. – Merideth Jewell Frey, who has served as an assistant coach on Craig Skinner’s staff the past four seasons, has been promoted to an Associate Head Coach, the Kentucky Volleyball program announced Thursday.

Jewell Frey is in the middle of her fourth season in Lexington since returning as an assistant coach. She played for UK in 2017 and 2018, capturing Southeastern Conference titles in both of her seasons as a player before transitioning to a coaching role the following season.

With her elevated title, she will continue to be in charge of the defensive gameplanning at Kentucky and serve as the defensive coordinator in addition to her day-to-day duties within the program including recruiting, practice planning, Kentucky’s NIKE gear and other important assignments.

Prior to UK, Jewell Frey recently was the assistant coach at South Dakota State, where she helped the Jackrabbits to a 19-12 season in 2021 and a semifinal appearance in the Summit League Tournament.

Jewell Frey is a native of the Bluegrass state, having played high school volleyball at Mercy Academy. At Mercy, she was named as the 2014 Kentucky Gatorade Player of the Year, Miss Kentucky Volleyball and with her team, won the 2014 state championship and club national championship.
