Wildcats Close Second Weekend Against Detroit Mercy

LEXINGTON, Ky. – After defeating ETSU on an Alexis Tylenda 89th minute game-winner on Thursday, Kentucky (3-0-0) will put its perfect record at stake once again on Sunday, hosting Detroit Mercy (1-2-0) at 1 p.m. ET on Sunday, August 24. Played at the Bell Soccer Complex, the match will also be streamed live on SEC Network + with Josh Braun and Gretchen Mills on the call.

Thanks to Tylenda—who scored both goals in the 2-1 win over ETSU—Kentucky extended its home unbeaten streak to 17 matches, dating to October 2023. Furthermore, Kentucky has claimed victory in each of its last 15 regular season non-conference games and is unbeaten in its last 21. In fact, under Head Coach Troy Fabiano, Kentucky has lost one regular season non-conference match—a road defeat at WKU in 2022.

After three matches, Kentucky is currently leading the nation in corner kicks per game, averaging 11.00 per contest. Additionally, Tylenda is leading the NCAA in total goals and total points with five and 11, respectively. Despite just 164 minutes on the pitch this year, Tylenda has surpassed her 2024 season totals in both of those categories.

Tanner Strickland has also been a key cog in the Wildcat machine this season, notching three assists and drawing three penalties so far this season. Her three assists rank first in the SEC and third in the NCAA.

Detroit Mercy comes to Lexington after falling 8-0 at Louisville on Thursday. This is the second consecutive season in which the two programs have met, with Kentucky claiming a 2-0 victory at the Bell last season. Overall, the Wildcats hold a 2-0-1 advantage in the series history.

The Wildcats are in the midst of a season-opening nine-match homestand, continuing play at the Bell on Thursday, August 28 at 7:30 p.m. against Purdue Fort Wayne. The match will be streamed live on SEC Network+. Admission to all 2025 Kentucky Soccer regular season home matches will be free to the public.
