LEXINGTON, Ky. – Avery Giese had an incredible competition in Germany at the World University Games as she finishes with the bronze medal in the 1-meter dive (251.85) and 10th in the 3-meter dive (212.20). Carson Hick also performed solidly, placing sixth in the mile race (15:17.45). Both Giese and Hick swam at the World University Games by representation of their home country- Team USA.
This is not the first time that Giese has performed exceptionally on such a big stage. The rising sophomore has already represented Team USA diving before as a part of the Pan American Junior Championships, Junior Worlds, and now the World University Games.
Giese has made a huge jump this summer following her freshman year campaign and hopes to use this international experience to her advantage when it comes time to be back on the boards competing collegiately.
Hick, the rising junior, competed in one event at the World University Games which was the 1500M freestyle. This is Hick’s first international swimming nod for Team USA, but another bright future ahead after a monster sophomore season. During the 2024-25 season he was an All-American in two events, an NCAA qualifier, SEC Championship A Finalist, a two-time US Nationals top ten finisher, and a six-time Kentucky program record holder.
Both Giese and Hick have shown continuous improvement, which is recognized by those all around the sport. The Kentucky men’s and women’s programs look to build off their success for the 2025-26 season when the student-athletes return to campus in the fall.
