Kentucky’s Ethan Walker Selected in 2025 MLB Draft

Kentucky left-handed pitcher Ethan Walker was selected by the Boston Red Sox in the 12th round of the 2025 Major League Baseball Draft that concluded Monday night.

Walker was joined by five players who have signed to play next season at Kentucky. All six have until July 28 to sign a professional contract or decide to play in Lexington next season.

Walker, who transferred to UK from Longwood before last season, finished the year 2-1 with a 4.08 earned run average in 46.1 innings. He appeared in 14 games, including nine starts, allowed 45 hits, walked 16 and struck out 49. He began the season as the Wildcats’ Sunday starter but found his groove late in the year as a midweek starter and long reliever.

The Midlothian, Virginia native’s best two outings came in victories over Louisville and then in a virtuoso NCAA elimination game outing against USC Upstate. In that game he pitched 5.0 innings of one-hit, shutout ball with seven strikeouts to keep the Cats alive. He also earned a save against a ranked Oklahoma squad, striking out five in 3.0 one-hit shutout innings on May 10.

Walker is pitching coach Dan Roszel’s 12th draft pick in six drafts at UK, including 10th in the past four drafts.
